About

I am an associate professor at Carson Newman University in the Department of Education. I teach courses in the education program and advise doctoral students. I am from Eastern Kentucky and taught high school there for seven years in alternative and mainstream schools. I am passionate about social and environmental justice and education’s role in making positive change in those arenas. In my graduate program, I focused my research on classroom climate and place- and community-based education. My dissertation examines the transformative potential of student-student relationships in a higher education setting. My book includes research, theory, and practice regarding phenomenological teaching and learning. I’m on Twitter @brianksohn
